As an organization, our main focus is targeted toward helping Latino youth achieve higher education with the help and support of their parents. The lack of parent involvement around college application time for Latinos is not a result of the parents’ unwillingness to help their children attend college, but is a consequence of their lack of knowledge regarding the college application process. The workshops that Puente offers are meant to educate Latino parents on what their children need to be doing now to be admitted into college. Being aware of what their children need to do, gives parents a purpose in the college application process. With the help of higher education workshops, parents can be mentors and motivators for their children as they apply to college.
One way Puente supports the Latino community is by visiting local schools, attending community events, and meeting parents and their children.
